In February 2019 I went to Montreal with my husband and son. Husband was working so the boy and I got to spend a few awesome days exploring. First on our wish list was: ice fishing. I had seen pictures of ice huts near the Vieux-Port but there was no ice fishing to be had there. Eventually we found a place 30 miles outside of Montreal in Pointe-des-Cascades and Uber-ed there. The driver was hesitant to leave us at the unmarked cabin on the side of the road.

We rented our gear and a dude drove us out onto the ice to our little shack for the day.

We caught nothing. It was the best day ever.

The shacks are my favorite part of the whole endeavor. Of course you can spend $65K on a luxury ice fishing house but why do that when you can build one from salvaged stuff and make it your very own. Four walls, a roof, and a wood stove - what more do you need?

I love how they're patchworked together (a theme that runs through everything I'm drawn to) to create sweet, cozy shelters to warm your bones.

These are three-color, 100% cotton tea towels.
