Tetra Pak Intaglio Workshop
Join Stephan Caspar and Kim Fox for an evening of merriment and printmaking. We’ll be using recycled tetra paks to create original intaglio prints. All supplies provided. 7 PM-9PM. Class is limited to 10 participants.
++++++
Printing with a Tetra Pak is a fun way to explore intaglio etching. Printmakers create designs by scratching into the waxy surface of the carton, which holds the ink. When you run it through a printing press, the ink seeps into damp paper from the etched lines, resulting in a detailed and textured image.
This technique is a lot like traditional metal plate etching but much easier to access. Tetra Pak cartons are readily available and can be reused, plus you don't have to deal with any acids or harsh chemicals, making it a safer option that's perfect for beginners or classroom activities. Artists can even cut shapes out from the carton to create embossed lines, adding more texture and fun to their prints.
The whole process invites you to experiment. You can scratch, peel, and layer different parts of the surface to achieve a variety of effects. The foil and paper layers in the carton interact with the ink in unique ways, giving each print its own distinct character. It's a playful, low-cost, and eco-friendly take on printmaking that still produces rich and expressive results.
